Paradigm Shift #2 – OFFERING (Part 1)

January 20, 2011 Leave a comment

Hello everyone, I would like to apologize for my absence from my postings.  I’m not a man of excuses, therefore I offer none.  I will say that my last 6 days have been bananas!  I don’t believe I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m currently an employee of Frost National bank in San Antonio, TX (Downtown).   I work in the internal audit department, and we have been auditing the Annual Financial Statements for 2010.  For the past 6 days, I have been working non-stop and it only motivates me to build my current businesses faster, so I can fire my boss one of these good ole’ days…  I’m totally not into the trading hours for dollars scenario, it’s just not my thing…  But enough ranting, let’s continue to work on our forward progressing mindset!

For the remainder of the week, I would like to discuss the powerful principle of paying offerings at your local ministry.  2 Corinthians 9:7, states that God loves a cheerful giver!  When it comes to the Kingdom of God, it’s always more blessed to give than it is to receive (Acts 20:35).  God was a giver, matter of fact the scripture states (John 3:16) that He gave His only begotten Son!  Now if I asked some of you to give (not loan :-)) me $20, you’d look at me crazy :-)!  But this is the problem!  We must come to a place where we get beyond the stronghold of mental lack in our lives.  Have you ever heard of the analogy where someone is clinching their fist so tight, as if they’re holding on to their hard earned money for dear life…  Though one side of the coin is that money is not leaving their pocket; the other side of the matter is that money is not coming in either!   Please don’t mistake my writings to mean that we shouldn’t be wise with the handling of our resources, but God wants to free us from the mindset of poverty!  We must acknowledge that God is sovereign and is in control!  We must remember that when we give unto His Kingdom, He is faithful and just to meet our every need!  All we have to do is trust in Him, and give cheerfully… You’ll began to notice God blessing everything you touch, and how good you feel after you’ve given to God from the goodness of your heart!

God wants to bless us richly, but we have to let go and let God!  And what better way than to give!  Now I’m a firm believer that giving is not just in the context of our financial resources, it also pertains to our time…  Let’s purpose in our heart to give God more!  More $$$, and more time!  God deserves it, and we owe it to ourselves, our church, and our community!  This practice will put you in the giving mode, which ultimately places you in the right posture to receive from God!  God never waste time blessing the work of idle hands (Proverbs 21:25), and I’m sure He won’t start now, so let’s start giving, let’s start helping others, and watch God open the windows of heaven in your life!

Assignment of the Day: If you’re not currently giving offerings to your local ministry and community, I dare you to start!  If you do these things already, I dare you too never stop!

Happy MLK Day!!!

Paradigm Shift #1 – TITHING (Part 4)

January 13, 2011 Leave a comment

Here’s my personal testimony regarding Tithing…  I’ll make it quick and to the point…

Since day one of my walk with God, I have never missed a tithe.  I don’t mention that to be lifted up in the air and placed on a pedestal… I mention it because I can attest to the blessings God has bestowed upon my family and I.  I can also thank God that my family hasn’t dealt with any major sickness or diseases, or major financial issues (unless I put myself in the issue… :-) ), and God has always provided our needs.  Other than receiving money from my parents in college, I’ve never had to borrow money from anyone, and my tax business income has literally doubled every single year!  In the year 2010, God blessed my tax business income to double, and my family salaries increased by more than $27,000!  God has more than doubled my family’s income, and it all started with our tithing.  We’ve literally gotten back more than 60% of what we’ve tithed in 2010!  What stock market or investment can do that faithfully year in and year out?  Matter of fact, wasn’t 2010 a recession?  Nobody beats God’s giving! My family is a testimony to this, and I could literally share countless testimonies on how God has blessed my family, and I know that it has all been tied to our faithfulness to tithing and offering (which will be our focus for next week!)…  I hope you join the bandwagon soon if you’re not already on it, because nobody beats God’s giving! God bless and take care

Assignment of the Day: If you’re not currently tithing, I dare you to start!  If you do tithe, I dare you too never stop!

Paradigm Shift #1 – TITHING (Part 4)

January 12, 2011 Leave a comment

Today and tomorrow’s post will be shorter than usual, but they are both relevant and important postings…

1.       Well, I tithe in the way I want to (give to the poor, sponsor kids in third world countries, provide for siblings that have lack, etc…), and I believe that is good enough!  Again, let’s go back to Malachi 3:10.  There are many scriptures in the Old Testament and New Testament that drives home the point that tithes and offerings are meant for the church (“with a physical address”), but we have enough contexts here to draw a solid conclusion.  God admonishes that we bring the tithe so there might be “meat” (substance), in my “house” (House of the Lord “physical address”).  God is a spirit (John 4:24), therefore God has no literal need for our “substance”, but the priestly office of God’s government (Pastors), must keep the lights on so that we can worship!  They must fund outreach ministry, pay the mortgage, pay for media, pay for evangelism advertisement, fund different auxiliaries within the church, build up the benevolence fund for families that are financial destitute, pay all utilities, pay for internet, pay for insurance, etc… These things don’t just appear out of thin air, the people of God must keep the ministry going.  As the ministry builds new churches and facilities to positively impact the community (schools, day cares, senior citizen homes, etc…), it takes our hard earned money to get this done… I pray for the day when the Church would get back to tithing correctly and giving to the Kingdom of God, to the point that the ministry has to turn away the offerings, because it’s overwhelming (Exodus 36:5-6)!  We must get back to the place where we’re sowing into the ministry God has placed us under…  And no one can say that God has not called them to serve within the body (Hebrews 10:25), and the number of so called “bible study groups” that won’t submit to a Pastor are really getting out of hand, if God called you to be a Pastor be a Pastor, but all the rebellion because the Church isn’t perfect, has to stop! You’re not perfect, I’m not perfect, only Jesus Christ is perfect, therefore let’s strive together and stop all this separation non-sense.  Plus, every Pastor that I know, has another Pastor (Spiritual Father) that they’re accountable to, so if the title of Pastor isn’t enough to “do your own thing”, then what gives us the idea that we don’t have to be submissive to the man of God?  Stop focusing on what other people are doing, and focus on what God mandates that you do!  If your Pastor has been exposed for his lack of integrity when it comes to God’s money, then pray and ask God if your under the right spiritual covering, but don’t be shallow and label the church as heathens or money hoarders…

For the record, there’s nothing wrong with giving to the causes mentioned above (give to the poor, sponsor kids in third world countries, provide for siblings that have lack, etc…), but let’s make sure we are taking care of “God’s House” first…

Okay… I thought today’s post would be shorter, I guess not… :-)  I’ll try to stick to my word tomorrow…  Take Care and God Bless!

Paradigm Shift #1 – TITHING (Part 3)

January 11, 2011 Leave a comment

Here are more questions and arguments to discuss around the realm of tithing…

1.       How can I control what the Church do with the money?  Some Churches use the money in the wrong way!  First of all, let me state, that I truly understand how you feel… It sucks and it really sheds a bad light on the ministry at large.  Not only that, it creates distrust in the community and the end result is that many people are discouraged from giving, because their “thoughts” continue to replay the negative incidents behind tithes and offerings being used for wrong motives… But at the end of the day, let God judge their actions, and deliver yourself from the bondage of wondering where our hard earned money is going.  You have so many other things to worry about, if your believe in God, then trust that He knows your heart, and that he will bless you for giving from a pure heart (2 Corinthians 9:7).  And don’t think for a second that I’m threw with this commit without saying, the priest or pastor who robs God and/or God’s people will have some major repercussions on their life! Because God will expose them in due time, and the few dollars they’ve been ciphering will not amount to the ridicule that will surround their ministry until the end of times!  I really want to say more, but it wouldn’t be Godly at all… :-)

2.       Should I pay tithes on loans, tax refunds, inheritances, or financial aid of any kind?  Going back to Proverbs 3:9, your increase is just that, “increase”…  A loan is not an increase, because it must be repaid…  If you’ve been paying taxes on your GROSS income as God Biblically requires, then majority of your tax refund is simply a repayment of your federal taxes. As far as tax credits are concerned, I’ll leave that between you and God to determine what’s an “increase” or a “reimbursement”…  Inheritances should have already been tithed upon in the past by the deceased member who is bequeathing their personal estate; the only exception is insurance payouts…  Most of the time, we don’t contribute (in insurance premiums) more than 10 to 30% of the face value (life insurance policies payout), therefore I believe life insurance policies are major “increases”, and that tithes should be paid on the difference of the insurance premiums paid and the actual life insurance policy payout…  They’re just another investment in our portfolios as far as I’m concerned… As far as other types of insurance policies (renter’s, auto, medical, etc…), I’ll leave that between you and God, concerning what’s an “increase” or a “reimbursement”.  Last but not least, in terms of financial aid, anything that is not a loan is an “increase” (scholarships, grants, work study, etc…) and the student should pay tithes on this amount.

Now I know some people can careless about what I have to say about “their” money, because they believe that it’s in their wallet or checking account, and I have no right telling them how to spend their money.  You’re partly correct… God has every right to tell you how to spend your money…  And I pray that you realize this sooner, rather than later.  I have heard, read, and witnessed countless horror stories of people who don’t pay their tithes, and the drama their household went through… We aren’t done with this subject; we will be discussing it more on tomorrow… God bless and take care!

Paradigm Shift #1 – TITHING (Part 2)

January 10, 2011 1 comment

Here are a few common questions and arguments I’ve been asked in the past regarding the subject of tithing…

1.       Why don’t many Catholic Churches teach tithing?  Honestly I don’t know, I have not perform much research on the Catholic faith, and probably won’t for a while.  I’m still learning about the bible for myself… :-)  But based on personal conversations with many Catholics, I know that many sects use a different bible interpretation, and some Catholics don’t own Bibles at all, kinda weird in my opinion but to each his or her own.  This is not a Catholic bashing session, far from it, for I love anyone (as a brother or sister in the faith) who acknowledges Jesus Christ as Lord.

2.       Why do I have to tithe on the GROSS and not the net?  This question was answered in last week’s blog, but I’ll reiterate…  The tithe should be the first fruits of thine increase, God does not get the second, third, or fourth (taxes, medical, and 401K deductions…) fruits of your increase, God demands and deserves the first fruits of all your increases (Proverbs 3:9).

3.       Tithing is part of the “Old Testament” and is not required in the “New Testament” because we are not bound by the Law anymore…  I love this argument!  Just love it!  And it’s easy to see where the heart of a man or woman is very quickly based upon this argument…  First of all, I’m not a Pastor or a paid minister (I’m a minister but I do not get paid… :-) ).  Therefore, let’s negate the shallow arguments that I have something to gain for making the following statements, I’m about to make…  Tithing is not only tied to The Law, tithing was required by Man centuries before The Law came into place.  Here are your three scripture references Genesis 4:1-5, 14:20-22, and Hebrew 7:1-10. It would truly be a 20+ page essay to break this down, so I’ll layout the major points…  God has always required an “offering” as far back as Adam’s first seed (that’s a sermon in itself…), and though the scriptures don’t fully lay out the percentage given, it was clear that Abel gave a better offering. First of all it was the FIRST of his substance, which again points out that God, wants his portion before “the government”, and our medical and retirement needs.  Second, though the scriptures don’t say it in its entirety, I believe that Abel brought at least a tenth, and this could potentially be the reason why God made it a Law, because it was so pleasing to Him, how Abel sacrificed a tenth of his first fruits.  Now to back up my statement, to ensure it’s not my philosophy, another scripture before the law (Genesis 14:20-22) clearly shows that tithing was the ordinance that pleased God.  As we all know, we’re adopted into Abraham’s inheritance (Galatians 3:6-7); therefore, we’re connected to Abraham, who followed this ordinance before the establishment of the law… How much more should we also continue in this manner!  I could stay on this all day, but we’ll pick it up tomorrow…

Paradigm Shift #1 – TITHING (Part 1)

January 7, 2011 Leave a comment

Good Morning Everyone,

It’s time to get down to some serious business!  No more philosophical teachings, we’ll talk about that throughout the year…  Tithing is scriptural, systematic, simple, successful, right, and HOLY before God!  I will be mindful of my viewers and not thoroughly lay out all the scriptures on this subject, because this subject is truly a book within itself…  The tithe is considered the first ten percent of your GROSS income (…not the NET!), and should be set aside ahead of time (Deuteronomy 14:22)!  Why the GROSS? Because the tithe should be the first fruits of thy increase, God does not get the second, third, or fourth fruits (taxes, medical, and 401K deductions…) of your increase, God demands and deserves the first fruits of all your increases (Proverbs 3:9).

In Malachi 3:6-12, the passage of scripture starts out discussing the errors of the Children of Israel, and in verse 8, God gets down to business!  Can a man rob God?  Surely not!  We only rob ourselves at the end of the day.  There are so many generational curses because families have robbed God of tithes.  We know this to be true because in verses 10 thru 12, it lays out the blessings that are attached to the tithe, and yet Christians are hurting more and more every year!  So what’s the problem?  God’s Word is true and is forever settled in heaven (Psalms 119:89), and anyone who does not agree, according to the word is a liar (Romans 3:4)!  Therefore we must not be paying our tithes and if we are faithful tithe payers, what are we doing with the money/talents God has given us (Matthew 25:14-30)?  I will be discussing tithes for the next few post, because it is so important that we understand that tithing is mandatory! I’ve heard so many false notions behind tithing, and this misconception is straight from the pits of hell!  For many of you who are not faithful tithe payers, in the back of your mind you know this to be true and you feel the conviction (even as you read this post).  If you haven’t felt the conviction, and maybe things are still going okay in your life, do not be fooled! God will not be mocked, you will reap whatever you sow (Galatians 6:7)!  God can change your circumstances over night, therefore reverence God’s Word, and do not sin against Him (1 John 3:9)!  I’m getting upset even now, when I think about our wicked mindsets, and how we perceive our God-given resources!  I’m going to shut it down today, otherwise, I’ll be writing for multiple pages!  Tithing is the most important paradigm shift that must occur before we begin our journey of financial freedom, and for some, it will lead you to the top right away because no man can beat God’s giving!

We will discuss some common questions and arguments on next week’s post… Take Care and God Bless!
